It’s that time again; the end of one Diablo 4 season and the (imminent) beginning of another. Blizzard has officially revealed the name of Season 5: Season of the Infernal Hordes. The new season is named after the new co-op activity it's adding to the game.

As promised, Blizzard told us a lot about Diablo 4’s first new class, the Spiritborn, in a dedicated livestream. The Spiritborn, as the name suggests, is a warrior aligned with animals from the Spirit Realm. It wields a glaive, is proficient in hand-to-hand combat, and is capable of calling upon their said Spirit Animals in combat.

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally going to get our first look at Diablo 4’s Spiritborn, the new class in the action RPG's Vessel of Hatred expansion, due this October. Spiritborn is a big deal for Diablo 4; not only is it the game’s first post-launch class, it’s also not based on any of the series’ known classes.

In other words, it’s brand-new for Diablo, which is exciting for a number of reasons, not least of which the fact Diablo 4 has the highest production quality of any game in the series, and certainly compared to the rest of the ARPG genre.

Diablo 4 has many bosses for you to fight. Some require beating lesser enemies to farm the rare materials necessary for spawning them, while others can simply be found in dungeons or at the end of quests.

One legacy boss in particular, however, is famous for his enduring habit of always showing up at the most inopportune time. We’re talking about The Butcher, of course, the classic, menacing boss who ambushes players, spawning at any moment without warning.

Blizzard clearly doesn’t think he’s threatening enough, though, because there’s now a more terrifying version of it you may encounter.

“I was at a point where I didn't know what game to play and Baldur’s Gate 3 came to mind,” modder Hippp0o tells me.

“I already had more than 500 hours in [its] story mode and didn't really feel like starting a new campaign. I really only wanted to treat it like a turn-based combat simulator with my custom/modded characters. I knew a bit about the possibilities with [the] script extender and Lua isn't new to me. So, I quickly made up and coded the basic concept, which is still used in today's version of ToT - maps, scenarios and enemies. That was the original plan.”

This little bit of early concepting would eventually morph into Trials of Tav - ToT as Hippp0o referred to it there - a pretty huge BG3 mod that adds an entire standalone roguelike mode to the game, aimed squarely at those who, as the modder did, just fancy taking on wave after wave of foes with their party. After all, you can only take in so many deep camp conversations with Gale or head off on a charming little quest with Karlach so many times until you’re overcome with the desire to kill a bunch of stuff - preferably in a fashion that requires a bit less planning than your average dark urge puts in.

Blizzard has officially revealed why you should be excited about Diablo 4’s fifth season, and why it’s bringing back the PTR. In a livestream on Friday, the developer detailed all the major changes coming with Season 5, and unveiled a new endgame activity.

For starters, the Season 5 PTR kicks off tomorrow, June 25. It will be available for one week - just like the Season 4 PTR - ending July 2. And just like that one, only PC players on BattleNet will be able to take part.

It’s been smooth sailing for a while now in the world of Diablo 4. As bereft of new content as it is, Season 4: Loot Reborn is largely considered one of the game’s best, all thanks to the fundamental changes it brought to the game’s itemisation.

It’s also fair to attribute some of that success to the Season 4 PTR, the testing environment which offered players access to much of the then-upcoming season’s changes ahead of time. That was Diablo 4’s first instance of the PTR, but the sheer volume of changes justified it. That same PTR is coming back for Season 5, indicating that something big is brewing for the game’s next season, too.

Xbox has officially announced that it's not only going to have presence at this year's Gamescom, but will be assembling its "biggest booth yet", while PlayStation and Nintendo have both confirmed they're giving the show a miss.

Yep, just one of the big three is planning to rock up in Cologne, meaning that there'll be absolutely no console wars-esque discourse the entire time the show is on. Surely, right? Okay, so definitely not, but at least there won't be any photos of Xbox and PlayStation logos facing each other like they're the flags of two sides engaged in of some kind of dramatic ancient conflict, rather than the occasional bout of corporate handbags.

"The Xbox team is heading BACK to Gamescom," the console maker has just announced via a Tweet, adding: "Visit us at our biggest booth yet August 21-25!" Hey, at least there was enough restraint shown that the tweet didn't contain the exact dimensions of this big booth, followed up by the line 'see, we weren't kidding, it's bigger than your dad's shed'.

Loot Reborn may be one of Diablo 4’s most successful seasons yet. It’s largely been well-received by players. Though it doesn’t bring any major new content to the game, the systemic and mechanical changes it implemented have clearly made players stick around for longer.

Part of that success is owed to the Public Test Realm (PTR), which Blizzard brought to Diablo 4 for the first time prior to the launch of Season 4. And, it looks like the developer wants to do the same with Season 5.

Path of Exile 2 is the next big ARPG coming to the world, and there's a lot of excitement around it! But, when you're talking about the next big release from Grinding Gear Games, there's an obvious elephant in the room: Diablo 4.

Speaking to VG247 during Summer Game Fest 2024, I sat down with game director Jonathan Rogers about what learnings the team has taken from the launch and continuous updates of Diablo 4. His response? The team learned little, but the game did cement some of Rogers' pre-existing beliefs. The most pressing of these, the merits of an open world in ARPGs.

"I don't think there's anything we directly responded to when it comes to Diablo 4," Rogers stated, "more than anything it confirmed other choices I always believed in. Like, I've always been skeptical of open world in video games, I know they can work in certain things, but for an action RPG in particular I'm not really a fan. I've always imagined that wouldn't work, and I certainly didn't love that element of Diablo 4."

Season 4 Loot Reborn is a paradox; simultaneously Diablo 4’s best season (in gameplay terms), and the strongest argument against the seasonal model yet

For all the complaints from players who don’t care about seasons there have been, Season 4 is ironically the best season for them, for a simple reason: practically everything it introduces to the game can be experienced without needing to engage with any seasonal mechanics.

Blizzard knows how to operate live service games, perhaps more than any other studio in the industry. Yet for all that pedigree, it never truly made a compelling case for seasons in Diablo 4. The idea of ladder seasons – where players compete to reach the endgame with customised builds – has always existed in Diablo, of course. But the modern meaning of seasons; the limited-time quest that comes with a battle pass and carry some sort of theme, that is new.

We’re coming up on one year since Diablo 4 was released - how time flies! The 12-month period has been fairly tumultuous for Blizzard's action RPG, with highs, very bizarre lows and unforced errors, but we like to think things have settled now.

No, there isn't a Diablo show coming, though general manager of the franchise at Blizzard Rod Fergusson has expressed interest in the idea.

It's becoming increasingly clear that live-action adaptations of video games are the big thing in film and TV. There had to be something after superhero flicks, after all, and how convenient is it that there's a wealth of IP just ready to be probably made worse when turned into a live-action project? Ok, sure, I do like the Sonic films, and the Fallout show was good enough that I might actually try playing the games again, but it's not like I wouldn't prefer there to be more original films and TV shows. Still, that won't stop them from happening, and while there isn't one planned right now, Rod Fergusson does at least think a Diablo show could work.

When asked about the idea of a Diablo show in a recent interview with Windows Central, Fergusson said, "Yeah I definitely think it could work. That's one of the things I really liked about Diablo as an IP, is that it's got very relatable themes because it's The High Heavens versus The Burning Hells, and that idea of Good versus Evil. I think that's something that could translate very well to something like that. You know, I wish I had something I could talk to you about today. But in terms of just the general idea, do I think it could work? I definitely do."

I’ve waxed poetic about my love for the action combat in Diablo 4 plenty of times before. Of the many, many Diablo-like action RPGs I’ve played, the one that always felt the best moment-to-moment has been Diablo 3. This remained true until Diablo 4 launched.

Dunking on Diablo 4 has been somewhat in vogue lately, but the game’s biggest sin wasn’t its underwhelming endgame, the overload of loot in the late-game, the lack of any meaningful social features, or even how it did Lilith dirty in its campaign. No, my biggest problem with Diablo 4 was all the time it made me spend not enjoying its action.

Blizzard wrapped up the Diablo 4 Season 4 PTR (Public Test Realm) earlier this week after about a week of testing. Not only was this the first time Diablo 4 players were able to test out content well ahead of its launch, it was also necessary considering the magnitude of what was being proposed.

The Diablo 4 PTR was chiefly created to allow players to offer feedback on several fundamental changes that affect loot quality/frequency, itemisation principles, some gameplay mechanics and much more. The changes are set to arrive in the game with Season 4 on May 14, which is far enough away to allow Blizzard to digest and utilise that feedback.

Things seem to be getting better in the world of Diablo 4 at the moment. That is mainly because of the Season 4 Public Test Realm (PTR), whose many changes to gameplay, loot, endgame and crafting have people very excited about Season 4.

Activision Blizzard is currently hiring for an unannounced game, and are looking for multiple senior staff to fill up the ranks on this project. This includes a creative director, design director for combat AI, senior art direct, and more.

While there is little indication on what exactly this kind of game this will be, the job posting for creative director notes they'll have to develop the game's IP as well as "multi-season story arcs". Whether that means it'll be a live service game like much of Blizzard's recent releases remains to be seen, but appears likely.

On it's own this is a very cut-and-dry simple news story, and one we probably shouldn't expect much of an update on for a while. However, recent developments across Activision Blizzard can provide interesting external context.

If you're anything like me, nothing makes you lose interest in a game quicker than the words "always online". Or "free-to-play". Or "connected experience", or whatever other marketing terms they've come up with for "live service grindfest that sucks". Sometimes they don't even tell you upfront that it's a GAAS title, leaving it up to the prospective audience to divine this information from visual cues in gameplay trailers like... three distinct types of in-game currency, numbers popping out of enemies heads, and the whole thing having that unmistakable whiff of a project that no involved creative could ever muster real enthusiasm for. It wouldn't be so bad if every single effing game didn't seem to ship with live service elements nowadays. But still, sometimes a s**t sandwich comes with sprinkles, and people can enjoy any old muck if they have to. As part of the most recent Campfire Chat developer livestream, Blizzard discussed Diablo 4’s upcoming mid-season update. The patch arrives Tuesday, March 5, and it is indeed the one the will introduce the Gauntlet to the game.

The Gauntlet is the often delayed endgame dungeon that’s similar to Diablo 3’s Greater Rifts. Available to players in World Tier 4 (with monster levels beyond 100, no less!), this dungeon has a fixed layout that changes weekly.

Last Epoch is mere minutes away from release now, after having spent nearly five years in Steam Early Access. It is the debut title of the small team at Eleventh Hour Games, a developer who decided to take on the venerable genre of action RPGs with its first game. Last Epoch is, in no uncertain terms, coming for Diablo 4, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem (remember that?) and all the other ARPGs currently in the conversation. The latter two have been out for a while, so player sentiment there have pretty much settled.

Path of Exile remains popular with a core group of players who don’t get deterred by its unwieldy skill tree, outdated visuals and core combat that just can’t stack up to any of those other options. While we all wait for Path of Exile 2, the main game in ARPG town right now is Diablo 4. And boy oh boy has Blizzard been doing its damndest to make it undesirable right now, with poorly-thought-out Season 3 mechanics, and a rush of unusually greedy microtransactions and store bundles for a $70 game.

In a way, Last Epoch couldn’t have asked for a more favourable environment to release in. For better or worse, ARPGs feel stagnant right now; with a lot of known quantities chugging along, and barely any excitement on the horizon. I’ve been playing the 1.0 build of Last Epoch, as the game prepares to graduate out of early access and properly introduce itself to players who haven’t kept up with its journey thus far.

We all knew this day would come, despite Blizzard stating in 2023 that there were “no plans” to bring Diablo 4 to Game Pass; however, that comment was made before Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was finalized - which took a year and nine months.

Because we’re apparently witnessing Diablo 4’s evil arc, Blizzard has created yet another reason for players to be upset about, except this one doesn’t is more bizarre than most. No, it’s not a puzzling gameplay change like, well, so much of what is in Season of the Construct.

It’s another store bundle that wants real money in exchange for what might be the most slight of cosmetic tweaks yet, somehow much less significant than the game’s (very common) horse armour, and a lot more expensive.

Well, unless you’re among the few who not only have the game’s rarest items, but who somehow also have too many for it to be an issue.

Blizzard recently promised a solution to a problem that, frankly, should be way lower on the totem pole. Tomorrow, the developer delivers on that promise.

It seems Diablo 4’s troubles are very much not behind it. After it looked like Blizzard had learned some key lessons from the reaction to the game’s launch, and the disastrous first post-launch balance patch, the developer has seemingly - and inexplicably - reset the clock with Season 3.

Season of the Construct is a strange step backwards in both its focus, along with the mechanics and seasonal quest it introduced. It makes it appear fairly slight for what is the third major content update. You could tell that Blizzard knew it, too, having very quickly tried to make the best of the situation with wide-sweeping buffs, and other changes that lessen the effects of Season 3’s controversial mechanics. All of that is especially alarming coming off the solid Season 2, which truly made it feel like the game had started coming into its own.

As luck would have it, however, the current situation has played right into the hands of Diablo 4’s first big competitor this year: Last Epoch.

Man oh man would it be fun to cover something actually good going on in Diablo 4, rather than what it seem like constant disappointments and misses. The game’s third season, Season of the Construct, was poorly received, causing Blizzard to (almost immediately) backpedal and make several major changes to the new season’s mechanics.

But just as everyone was starting to accept that Season 3 just won’t be as fun to grind as past seasons, Blizzard hit us with the Lunar Awakening limited-time event, the game’s second. One of Diablo 4’s upcoming features, which is anticipated by many in the core community, will not be in the game soon as initially planned. Before the launch of Season of the Construct, Blizzard talked about implementing leaderboards, which will be tied to the new Gauntlet endgame dungeon.

The plan was for Season of the Construct to launch, give everyone time to explore the new mechanics and content, then launch the Gauntlet. In other words, it was expected to arrive fairly shortly after Season 3 kicked off.

Having unused Uber Unique pieces of loot is a problem very few Diablo 4 players are likely to be familiar with. If the name didn’t give it away, this is a higher tier of Unique weapons and gear that has a ridiculously small chance of dropping.

If you luck out and get one or more of them to drop, however, you may find yourself in the privileged situation where you just don’t have a use for them.

When I first sat down to play Diablo 4’s Season 3 - Season of the Construct - I certainly wasn’t worried that I am not going to enjoy my time. Though I had my misgivings about the apparent focus on traps and hazards in its dungeons, it was simply impossible to judge the bigger picture without actually delving into it.

There was a worry that, because Blizzard took so long to talk about the new season, it might not be as ambitious or grand as past seasons. But the full reveal quickly assuaged those fears.I have now put enough time into the season, and I am confused about so much of what went into its deign.

Season of the Construct has three 'pillars'. The first is Diablo 4’s first companion; an AI-controlled pet that follows you around and deals damage to enemies, protects you, and occasionally pull aggro.

After initially posting them ahead of time, Blizzard has now revealed the full set of patch notes for the next Diablo 4 patch. Update 1.3.1 is scheduled for tomorrow, February 1, and it’s a little on the lighter side in terms of interesting additions.

The shrines of Diablo 4 have acquired some big new powers, which we'll all get to experience when the Lunar Awakening in-game event kicks off. As the name suggests, the event is a celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

If you’ve been keeping track, this makes Lunar Awakening the game’s second limited-time event, following the holiday’s Midwinter Blight. Unlike that one, however, Lunar Awakening will be available across both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms.

In somewhat surprising news, Johanna Faries has been appointed as the head of Blizzard Entertainment. Faries is mostly known for her work at Activision, where she was most recently the chief of the Call of Duty franchise.

Faries initially joined Activision to lead Call of Duty's esports division, before transitioning to head Call of Duty. She is now the first Blizzard boss to be appointed following the completion of Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Blizzard rolled out patch 1.3.0a for Diablo 4 on Friday, making it the first update to arrive following the launch of Season of the Construct, the game’s third season. While the patch does address several bugs - including the one that prevented players from progressing through the seasonal quest, it actually mostly makes changes to many of the new features in the new season.

Considering Season 3 had only been live for just three days at that point, you’d have to wonder why those tweaks weren’t in the launch version of 1.3.0 to begin with.

1.3.0a address several of the pain points Diablo 4 players quickly identified upon the launch of Season of the Construct. For starters, the new Seneschal Companion just didn’t feel very powerful. While Blizzard hasn’t adjusted the companion’s power directly, it made it a bit easier to level up by creating more sources for Governing and Tuning Stones - which is what ultimately dictates the power of its attacks.

During last night’s Season of the Construct developer livestream, Blizzard delved deep into how it’s making the Season Journey of Diablo 4’s upcoming season more rewarding.The developer is tackling multiple areas that players were never truly happy with, such as objectives that, in Blizzard’s own words, have seen very low completion rates.

The Season Journey in Diablo 4 is tied to battle pass progression, but it is also entirely separate in that it has its own progression track with its own chapters, objectives, and unique rewards. Some of those rewards certainly feed back into the battle pass, but it’s best to view it as, well, a journey through the season.

Season of the Construct rekindles the legacy of Zoltun Kulle, and the theme is all about robots. You'll be accompanied by a Construct - Seneschal Companion - and you'll descend deep beneath the deserts of Kehjistan to defeat other Constructs, where someone is trying to do Malphas' bidding.

So much STUFF game out in 2023 - we had The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a new Baldur's Gate 3, a Skyrim sequel which introduced such innovations to the series as Guns and Boring. I'm talking about Starfield. And you knew that, but I have to spell it out in the body text because a certain tech giant has taken wordplay, nuance, and creativity out onto the back porch and shot them all in the head as a sacrifice to the god of Endless Growth. Which doesn't exist. The god, or the concept. Heh! We even got a sequel to Dead Island (it was called Dead Island 2).

Some of the very best games frankly of all time came out last year. Outrageously, though, many of them came and went with minimal fanfare, because within DAYS of their release, the news and hype cycle was onto the next thing. Whether that was yet another huge, record-breaking franchise entry or a team getting laid off after having made one. Yes, for the games industry, last year ruled and sucked in equal measure. It truly was the best of times and the worst of times.

Anyway, the point is, there were so many amazing games coming out last year that you've forgotten most of them. And of those games you forgot, which is the best? Blizzard has officially confirmed that the first - and seemingly only - developer livestream for Diablo 4's Season 3 will be taking place next week. There was initially some confusion as to the exact date, because the developer put out a very brief teaser video for Season 3 that suggested more will be revealed on January 16.

But that's not actually when the developer update will be taking place. Instead, the show won't happen for two more days - on Thursday, January 18, making this the closest to a new season we got before learning anything about it.

So what's actually happening on January 16? Well, that's unclear. The teaser video itself, which we've embedded below, has practically nothing to offer. It almost feels like Blizzard had to get something out there as players' worries about the lack of communication grew.

Even before it launched, Blizzard has been talking up ray tracing features in Diablo 4 fairly regularly. Though it was never shown in action, ray tracing support was understood to be on the cards for launch.

Diablo 4 came out, and delivered two whole seasons and we'd yet to see that promise fulfilled, but that's going to change soon.

At CES 2024, Nvidia confirmed a suite of games will soon get ray tracing and DLSS support. The list includes Dragon's Dogma 2, Horizon Forbidden West (which doesn't have a PC date yet), and Diablo 4. Blizzard's action RPG already supports DLSS, of course, in both its frame generation as well as image upscaling forms.

2023 is over, and soon, Diablo 4's Season of Blood. The game's second season is in its final days, which usually means we know more than enough about the next one to get excited about. Strangely, however, that's not the case with Season 3.

Blizzard has yet to even announce an official name, or even touch on where Season 3 will be properly revealed.

Season 2 officially ends on January 23, which is almost two weeks from now. New Diablo 4 seasons have, so far, started on the same day the previous one ends, so it's logical to assume January 23 is also when Season 3 will kick off.

A lot has changed in Diablo 4 since its release in June. This goes for things like the amount of content, the strength of its endgame, and the often controversial subject of itemisation and loot.

As a reflection of that evolution, the classes Diablo 4 players tended to prefer has also changed.

As promised, Blizzard will be rolling out a new Diablo 4 patch today. Much of what's included in patch 1.2.3 has been discussed in recent livestreams, of course, with the biggest item there being the Abattoir of Zir.

The Abattoir is an ultra-challenging, endgame dungeon similar to Dibalo 3's Rifts, available only to players who completed the seasonal journey for Season of Blood.

Patch 1.2.3 is the last major update for Diablo 4 in 2023, so it also includes the content of Midwinter Blight, the game's first limited-time event. Midwinter Blight is basically Diablo 4's holidays event, but it does not actually go live until December 12 - a week from now.

It's clear Diablo 4's Season of Blood has been a success, both thanks to the many quality of life, wide-reaching changes it brought to the game, as well as the new content itself.

We may be deep into Season 2, but Blizzard is already sharing some tiny details about its broad goals for Season 3, as well as a few specifics.

One of Season 2's bigger additions is the Blood Harvest event. Blood Harvest is a recurring in-game event that covers a certain portion of the map. It ties into the season's theme of vampirism and its effects on Sanctuary, but it's effectively also a version of the existing Helltide event.

Today marks the return of Diablo 4's Campfire Chat, the more relaxed/casual developer-lead livestream. The subject of today's show is twofold, and it's one both casual players and those already deep into the endgame will care about.

When Blizzard revealed Diablo 4's first expansion at BlizzCon earlier this month, the developer left out one crucial detail. We know that Vessel of Hatred is targeting a late-2024 launch, and we know that it's adding a new region to the game along with a class that's never been in a Diablo game before.

But what we don't know is how much Vessel of Hatred is going to cost, and it looks like Blizzard is working on nailing one (or several) price points.

According to a leaked survery shared by Bellular News on YouTube (via Try Hard Guides), Blizzard has been asking some players a lot of questions about monetisation when it comes to future Diablo 4 DLC and expansions - though without naming Vessel of Hatred specifically.

EAFC 24 has roared back to the head of the UK physical sales charts following Black Friday, likely due to the fact it was being sold for a lot less money in a lot of places during that week.

Yes, that’s right. Having previously slumped to third, behind at least one game that I’ll deliberately not be naming here, EA FC has restored balance to the universe by becoming the official Lord of shifting little discs inside plastic boxes on plague island once again.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, a 101% increase in sales was what did the deed, with most of these coming on PS5. Given that the physical version of the game was being sold for £41.99 instead of the usual £69.99 on that platform and Xbox Series X/S at several retailers as part of Black Friday deals, odds are that probably helped a bit.

Diablo 4 is a living game, so the opinion of its players is guaranteed to change from season to season, and patch to patch. The game wasn't especially well-received at launch, and the pre-Season 1 update caused such a controversy that Blizzard had to reevaluate its entire update process.

We're now in the middle of Season 2, player sentiment is trending much more positively, with it seeming like Blizzard learned the right lessons from the launch and the reaction to the first season. All of that is to say that user reviews - on Steam and elsewhere - are bound to reflect that changes made to the game.

It's not particuarly surprising, then, to see that Diablo 4's Steam review rating has changed from Mixed to Mostly Positive, thanks to all the positive changes made in recent months.

For a live service game, Diablo 4 has surprisingly few double XP events. Mother's Blessing, as it's known in the game, is the closest thing you'll get to a double XP event (it's not actually double). Well, the second iteration of that event is coming back next week.

The good news is that it's longer, and offers bigger bonuses to boot.

Whereas the first Mother's Blessing (which took place in September), ran for just four days, this one runs for a full week. It also had a bonus of just 25% to Gold and XP earn, compared to 35% for this one.

The next major Diablo 4 patch in Season of Blood is upon us, and what we're getting is something very interesting, and it bodes well for the future of the game. Patch 1.2.2, which arrives tomorrow, November 7, introduces five new Unique rings.

While that would usually be interesting on its own, it's the powers these rings offer that's worth highlighting.

The five new rings, one for each class, join the loot table to deliver Malignant Powers to the five classes. If you may recall, Malignant Powers were first introduced in Season of the Malignant, but they disappeared when the season ended.

At BlizzCon 2023, Dibalo 4 production directors Tiffany Wat and Chris Wilson announced what's coming to the game this year, and into 2024.

The main announcement was the first expansion, slated for late 2024. It's called Veseel of Hatred and tells the fate of Mephisto - the brother of Baal and Diablo.

Vessel of Hatred takes up where the main story left off, and as previously leaked, you will travel to the lands of Nahantu which is said to be similar in size to the other five zones.

It all starts with a deep dive into World of Warcraft, followed by a session on Overwatch 2, the Diablo 4 campfire chat, and then community night.

The last day of BlizzCon 2023 concludes with a performance from South Korean girl group Le Sserafim. The group released their first English-language single Perfect Night in late-October in collaboration with Blizzard. The single was used to promote Overwatch 2, and an in-gme event themed on the group is currently running until November 20. The event features new skins and a limited time capture the flag mode, and cosmetics themed after the group.

For much of my life, I understood the term MVP to stand for most valuable player. But MVP takes on an altogether different meaning when applied to game development. More specifically, the sort of live service games intended to live on for years, and be built upon for as long as there’s money to be made.

The version of Diablo 4 that launched back in June was, for all intents and purposes, an MVP – minimum viable product. It was perfectly functional, had plenty of content, a variety of classes and environments, and even one of the smoothest launches for an online game in recent memory.

Despite that, it was hard to deny simply how many crucial features were missing, most of which were not only expected, but thought to be staples in the action RPG genre. In our review, Connor spoke very highly of the game, but admitted that “it could have been more.”

As promised, Blizzard revealed the full details about patch 1.2.1 for Diablo 4. This is the second major patch following the release of the well-received Season of Blood.

Having revealed the patch's highlights earlier this month, players were already looking forward to this one, and with good reason.

The two biggest additions in 1.2.1 are the ability to reset the entirety of the Paragon Board, and a Training Dummy. The Paragon Board reset lets you refund the entire thing with one click, instead of having to do each one individually.

Though this may not be as exciting as all the expansion leaks, this is still a good time for Diablo 4 fans. But what if you've been watching from afar? Well, Blizzard is offering anyone on the fence another opportunity to jump in.

Diablo 4 is hosting another free trial this weekend on PC, after it ran one on Xbox last week.

This particular trial is only available on Battle.net, not on Steam, despite the game having launched there recently. Blizzard created this landing page which automatically starts the download, and saves you from having to download Battle.net, and find the game on the store.

Something big is brewing at Blizzard for Diablo 4, and it may just be the game's first expansion. The developer recently uploaded version 2.0 to a private test branch, which has since been datamined to reveal a lot of juicy details.

Diablo 4's current version number is 1.0, with every new patch pushing it towards 2.0. This suggests that major build numbers will be tied to new expansions, which lends this particular leak some context.

What was actually discovered is the main reason why people are excited, of course. According to YouTuber YbuBaKa (via ResetEra), the build includes several references to the first expansion, which is said to be called Lord of Hatred.

With the start of the second season, Diablo 4 has evidently turned a corner. Many of the game's long-running woes have been addressed, but the solution to one in particular initially had players a little suspicious.

That, of course, being loot. More specifically, the frequency of Legendary drops.

Ahead of the start of Season of Blood, Blizzard confirmed a long list of systemic changes, which includes tweaking loot drops for players at level 50 and beyond - an area where the game had big issues in the past.

It looks like Microsoft’s recently completed deal to acquire Activision Blizzard is already resulting in a slight bump to the amount of people who’re considering subscribing to Xbox Game Pass.

This is according to data collected by consumer analytics firm CivicScience, which has conducted polls of US adults with the aim of determining the effect that the deal could have in terms of helping to stoke more interest in Microsoft’s gaming offerings.

Having conducted two separate surveys, one in 2022 and and one in 2023, asking people how likely they are “to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass services now that Activision Blizzard games will soon be included”, CivicScience has found a slight year-on-year increase in those saying that they’re either very or somewhat likely to do so.

Trading between Diablo 4 players has been temporarily shut down while the game’s developers attempt to address a freshly-discovered duplication exploit.

This isn’t the first time Blizzard has had to step in and halt transactions in the game, having taken the same measure back in August, in response to exploits which were allowing players to duplicate gold and items. Since then, Season 1 has given way to Season 2, with the current exploit potentially having something to do with one of the latter’s bosses.

“We’ve suspended player trading in Diablo IV until further notice due to a duplication exploit,” community manager Rich Bantegui wrote in a post on the game’s official forum.

Look, obviously blood is a big part of Diablo 4's whole thing; the game's second season is literally called the Season of Blood. And it appears that Blizzard is taking that title quite literally, as it's offering up a whole entire custom liquid-cooled PC as a giveaway that, for I guess obvious reasons, will have real human blood in it. Whose human blood, I hear you asking? No idea, someone's, but the blog post announcing the giveaway didn't really go into all that much detail on that side of things. The thing is, to get some blood, you'll have to give some blood.

This isn't just a normal giveaway, you see (as if the whole blood computer wasn't abnormal enough anyway). In order to unlock the potential to win this prize, you'll have to donate blood first. A precise 666 quarts of it, in fact, though thankfully that's just a collective total, you won't need to donate all of that yourself. Don't worry though, it is worth it technically, as there are a number of goals along the way to the 666 quarts that will net you in-game rewards.

Here we are, some four months after the release of Diablo 4, and Blizzard is hosting the game's first-ever free trial. Except, it's only available on a single platform, that being Xbox.

The trial is available now on Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series X/S. You can only play the game for ten hours, however.

This Diablo 4 free trial can be accessed by anyone, as it's not part of Game Pass Core's (previously, Xbox Live Gold) Free Play Days promotion - which is currently on alongside it. That said, the trial is only available until Sunday, October 22 at 11:59pm PT / 2:59am ET (October 23) / 7:59am BST (October 23).

With the launch of Diablo 4's Season of Blood officially underway, following a night of troubles and a short delay, Blizzard is hoping to push the game's numbers up everywhere - including its viewership on Twitch.

In celebration of the new season, a new Twitch Drops event has kicked off, offering four unique rewards, one each week, for four consecutive weeks.

Blizzard calls it the The Oricalchum Collection, and it's basically a set of weapon skins for Diablo 4's different classes. Each of the four will be available to Twitch viewers to claim, so long as they watch four hours or more.

The highly-anticipated start of Season of Blood, the second Diablo 4 season, did not go as planned. After spending weeks hyping up everything coming with the new season, from the impressive list of quality of life changes, to the new gear and class meta and, of course, the new content - Blizzard had everyone who cares anxious to download patch 1.2.0 and begin the hunt.

Unfortunately, just as everyone was getting ready to jump in, trouble started.

Season of Blood was initially set to kick off at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST, which is when patch 1.2.0 was actually released. Shortly after, Blizzard issued a note on Battle.net to let everyone know that the new season will now be starting an hour later.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that players shouldn’t expect to see a flood of Activision Blizzard games arrive on Game Pass before this year is out.

Naturally, following the confirmation on October 13 (complete with trailer) that Microsoft has officially closed its deal to acquire ActiBlizz, there’s been a lot of chatter about when the publisher’s titles could begin to show up on the lauded Game Pass service. However, in a recent appearance on the official Xbox Podcast, Spencer confirmed that there will be no surprise addition of Activision Blizzard games to Game Pass before this year is out, with nothing being set to arrive until 2024.

In response to a question addressing the almost immediate addition of many Bethesda titles to Game Pass following Microsoft's acquisition of Zenimax Media back in 2021, Spencer said: “I would love it if there was some kind of secret celebration drop that’s coming in the next couple of weeks — there’s not.”

Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 is Steam Deck verified.

The demon-slaying game comes to Steam next week on October 17, allowing those with a Steam Deck to take the game on the road with them.

Microsoft has officially closed its $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard.

This follows the announcement this morning that the deal had been cleared by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, following revisions to it by Microsoft that aimed to allay the regulator’s concerns about the effect the acquisition could have on cloud gaming.

In getting the deal over the line, Microsoft has taken ownership of series including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Diablo, as well as adding a list of developers that includes the likes of Infinity Ward and Treyarch to its Xbox Game Studios contingent. The deal also helps it on the mobile gaming front, by adding Candy Crush Saga developer King to Microsoft’s arsenal.

BlizzCon 2023 takes place in November, and ahead of the event, the studio is offering folks two paid bundles featuring in-game goodies to celebrate; however, many players of Blizzard games are unhappy with the purchase prices.

Both offerings feature a pet and toy for World of Warcraft, two mount trophies and the Lapisvein Mount for Diablo 4, a weapon charm, credits, and a name card for Overwatch 2, three card packs for Hearthstone, and the Murloc portrait and skin for Warcraft Rumble. In addition, you get a 10% discount off one item in the Blizzard Gear Store. Those who opt for the higher-tier bundle will receive extra in-game items.

The problem some players have with the bundles is not so much the contents but what you get for the price, which many find expensive; however, others feel the offerings are inadequate for the price.
